KUCHING (Nov 6): The Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting scheduled from Nov 9 to 13 will be conducted with strict compliance to standard operating procedure (SOP) to reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19, said DUN secretary Pele Peter Tinggom.

In saying this, he added that the SOP, adopted from the existing SOP for the Parliamentary sitting, had been approved by the Sarawak State Health Department.

“We adopted the SOP from the ones used for the Parliamentary sitting and it has been approved by the State Health Department.

“As such, those involved in the DUN sitting, including media practitioners, are required to strictly adhere to the SOP as advised by the National Security Council (MKN) and Ministry of Health,” he added.

Pele said this when conducting a briefing on SOP implementation for Sarawak DUN sitting with reporters at DUN Auditorium here today.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) chief communications management Samuel Simon said it was not compulsory for reporters to undergo Covid-19 swab tests as required by all 82 assemblymen who are required to undergo the test prior to the sitting.

In saying this, he asserted that there were no new directive issued on it – however, reporters were required to follow the existing SOP such as registering their names via the MySejahtera App, conduct temperature checks and practice physical distancing.

He added that only one representative from each media organisation was allowed to cover the sitting – except for broadcasting where one cameraman and one reporter are allowed.

“This will be carried out following decision by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) that only allows 50 percent of the total capacity in one place.

“In Sarawak, we have more than 25 media organisations, and if we allow more than one representative to cover the sitting, the number of people will be more than the allowed capacity. So we seek for cooperation from all media practitioners to adhere to this,” he added.

He said that Ukas will also be broadcasting the DUN sitting live via its social media platform for those covering it from their respective offices.
